Piotr Kochański, Advocate, Managing and Founding Partner of Kochański Zięba Rąpała & Partners.

He heads up the Firm’s Litigation and ADR, Competition and IP and Regulatory Department.

Specializing in multi-jurisdictional litigation, arbitration, mediation and regulatory matters and having been particularly active in developing a mature Polish IP practice since the early nineties, he has advised clients from the automotive, pharmaceutical, detergents and house hold cleaning products, food and beverages, FMCG, IT, telecomm, media, mining, energy, construction and military sectors amongst others, as well as banks and financial institutions and government agencies.

As a Polish partner with Hogan&Hartson, one of three American law firms to first establish a presence on the Polish market following the collapse of communism in 1991, he was active in a number of high profile projects which addressed the issues Poland needed to attend to following its transformation. These related to matters such as Intellectual Property Law and regulations, Copyright Law, Securities and Mutual Fund Law and regulations and the first Polish Public Procurement Law, amongst others. From 1996, as a Partner with White&Case and as a Member of the Management Board of their Polish Branch, Mr. Kochański managed their dynamically growing Commercial Litigation and Arbitration and IP and Technology Practices in Poland.

Today Mr. Kochański represents a variety of leading companies in Poland. He has been personally recognized as one of the few Polish Most Recommended Lawyers for IP and Life Science including being recommended by the prestigious PLC Which Lawyer Year Book 2009. Recently he has concentrated on the firm's ADR practices and is one of the first lawyers in Poland to complete the post-graduate diploma from the University Of Warsaw in Mediation, Negotiation and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

During his career, between 1993 and 1995, he was lecturing on Legal Aspects of Technology Transfer, as a Visiting Scholar at the George Washington University in Washington DC.

A graduate of the Jagiellonian University of Krakow (1985), he is a member of the Warsaw Bar (1990) and the Washington, DC Bar (1995).

Mr Kochański speaks English, French and Russian.
